Japanese hornet
Fact fileJapanese hornets are large insects that grow to the size of an adult thumb and can deliver a painful bite and sting. They are a bees colony's worst nightmare because 30 of the hornets can eat 30,000 bees in 2 hours. They hunt in large groups and search for bee nests for most of the time so they can eat and feed their babies. They track bee nests by leaving their scents on the nests so they can find it later on when they have a large group. Their jaws decapitate the bees head and their stinger is highly venomous and sharp for killing insects.
